CreedAmbers · Centaurus & Delphinus

How it was made
The bottle had to stand inside the scent world, and that world is at a different scale to the bottle. So we shot the two separately and linked them together in virtual production, using a range of techniques.
Shooting the element first
The macro frames were shot first, on their own, two days before the bottle. Slow motion at five hundred frames a second, to catch the amber shards breaking. We shot them first so we could play them back on a virtual production screen behind the bottle.
On the day
The flacon stands on a machined block beside the lens, and the frames from two days before play back on the screen behind it. That is where the two are linked: in front of the camera, not in post. Motion control repeats the move take after take, and what is left goes to VFX.
Four techniques running together: motion control, virtual production, slow motion and effects. The point of running them together in front of the camera is that the bottle is lit by the thing it's standing in.
